Dear Families,
Have you ever heard of Ted Dintersmith? He delivers one of my favorite Tedx Talks and it is entitled Prepare Our Kids for Life, Not Standardized Test.
I really enjoy listening to non-Montessorians who sound exactly like Montessorians.
According to the Tedx Talk synopsis: As a leading venture capitalist, Ted Dintersmith lived and breathed the world of innovation. He has seen first-hand how quickly automation is eliminating the structured jobs in our economy, as well as the opportunities for young adults who are bold, creative, and entrepreneurial. As Ted shifted his focus to the future of our schools, he realized that the core purpose of our schools has been lost in a wave of testing, data, and accountability. In this talk, Ted underscores the potential for our kids and our country if we educate to our innovative and creative strengths, and trust our schools and teachers to prepare our kids for life, instead of for standardized tests. After a twenty-five year career in venture capital, Ted Dintersmith is now focused on issues at the intersection of innovation and education. He was the executive producer of the film; Most Likely To Succeed and The Hunting Ground which premiered at Sundance, 2015.

Parents have asked to learn more about the Montessori Planes of Development and I shared that I have a wonderful activity to help parents understand child development characteristics at each level. Milestone Ceremony is quickly approaching. Would you be so kind as to send 4-5 photos of your adolescent to Katie, our Technology Coordinator, at katie@whiterockmontessori.org. We want to put together a slideshow highlighting your amazing adolescents at the Milestone Reception. Please include the following photos:
Baby pictures
Young (maybe first day of school)
Interests outside of school (sports, dance, other activities)
As an adolescent (current photo)
Family photo (including siblings)
Katie will put these photos together in a Google Slide Deck to be played as a loop at the reception.

White Rock Montessori and The Parent Community are proud to support a local nonprofit called Owenwood Farm & Neighbor Space. Owenwood hosts monthly food and diaper distribution days, as well as various other community programs just down the road from WRM.
